'Secret in their Eyes' is a Hollywood adaptation of the 2010 Best Foreign Language Oscar winner 'El secreto de sus ohos' (The Secret in their Eyes) from Argentina.
I think it is a fair bet the Argentine original - which was highly regarded - is a far superior product to this adaptation. The plot in this adaptation is shifted from Argentine politics to post 9/11 counter terrorism obsessed USA and concerns the search for the violent killer of daughter of a Los Angeles police officer.
Ethical process goes out the window as the desire for justice at all costs collides with political ambition.
I've felt that Nicole Kidman's recent performances have confirmed her development as an actress but she is badly miscast in this film as the Los Angeles District Attorney.
