In 2004 in the lead up to the US Presidential election with incumbent George W Bush seeking re-election the CBS television network aired reports that the President had avoided military service through favoured treatment. The journalists behind the reports subsequently faced intense criticism of political bias and claims the evidence they relied upon was fraudulent.
These events are told in 'Truth' a magnificent film which despite its particularly American subject matter and characters has considerable Australian involvement. Cate Blanchett is superb as the lead journalist and the principal American cast members and supporting performers, many Australian, constitute a magnificent ensemble.
A terrific political drama. Highly recommended.
