Hot and cold

Yesterday Sydney's temperature reached 34ºc (93ºf). The hottest day the city has experienced at this time of year (Spring) in 158 years.

Today the forecast top is 18ºc (64ºf). A short time ago the temperature had reached 15ºc (59ºf) but the apparent temperature was 6ºc (43ºf).

An effective variation of 28ºc. Crazy.

  1. I'm sure such and extreme is nothing to do with global warming. I never heard of such a large gap between the actual temperature and the apparent temperature. I wonder in what location your temperatures are recorded, as you do have quite extreme differences between the west and the salubrious eastern suburbs.

    1. The temperatures I quoted were the official temperatures from the Weather Bureau (rounded to the nearest whole figure) recorded at the Sydney Observatory (at the edge of Sydney Harbour at Millers Point).

The Bureau has at least seven recording stations, I believe, around the greater Sydney area. As far as I know the temperatures they reveal for the 'West' are those recorded at Penrith.
