Vietnam Day 9 - Hue to Ho Chi Minh City

We flew from Hue to Ho Chi Minh City (still also referred to as Saigon) in the south of Vietnam. It was immediately evident as descended into the city and again once on the ground that this is a very different city from Hanoi.

Immensely busy and much like some of the other major South East Asian cites.

After negotiating our way through the enormous crush at the airport and the traffic jam in our slow drive into the downtown area our first stop was a Pho restaurant for lunch. It was located somewhere in the bowels of this building.

Next stop was the Presidential Palace (of the former South Vietnam) now known as Unification Palace. Some of the displays within the Palace are of rooms as they were in the final days of the Vietnam War (which understandably they refer to as the American War).

Unification Palace

Remember Telex machines?

Remember images of the tanks breaking though the gates of the Palace in the final stages of the Vietnam War? This is the street they came down.

  2. The old public buildings look very grand and it is good that Vietnam has preserved so many. Rather well lit too. My photo is of the other side of the palace gate.
