Something Borrowed

Rachel (Ginnifer Goodwin) is secretly in love with Dex (Colin Egglesfield) who is engaged to her best friend Darcy (Kate Hudson). When Rachel inadvertently admits her love to Dex he reveals that he reciprocates her feelings.

Not an unusual situation in Hollywood romantic films but rarely presented as unconvincingly as in 'Something Borrowed'. Rachel and Dex are well suited, each being as bland as the other. Why Dex would be engaged to the self absorbed Darcy is a mystery as is the ongoing relationship between the two women. The accompanying 'friends' are an unattractive pair whilst John Krasinski has a thankless task as the obviously straight confidante pretending to be gay so as to put off the advances of an obnoxious female when his role makes more sense if in fact he were supposed to be gay.

Egglesfield makes for wondrous eye candy but otherwise this film doesn't have much else going for it other than the usual scenic images of New York lifestyle. The over the top product placement is a distraction.
