My expensive resolution

I don't tend to make New Year's resolutions probably because I can't discipline myself to keep to them.

However, I decided last year that sometime in 2009 I would buy myself a flat screen television. I suppose that amounts to a sort of resolution and it is amazing given my lack of discipline in other areas that I seem to be able to meet commitments that cost me money. And so it has proven yet again.

It only took me to the afternoon of 2 January to purchase the television after spending the afternoon of 1 January and the morning of 2 January researching outlets and comparing prices. My new baby is to be delivered this afternoon and I am spending today at home awaiting its arrival.

I hope I am not jinxing myself posting this before the television's safe delivery. Each of my last three large household goods purchases has gone awry at some point through retailer's incompetence. I must write about this sometime.

  1. Good luck. I only last week bought a Panasonic Viera 81cm LCD. I got it for 2 reasons. The first being that my old TV was old (I posted a pic of it) and the second; I wanted to watch ABC2 and now I can.

I too researched Victor but became more confused after reading forums on what people's preferences were. So I joined CHOICE on-line for less than $22 a quarter. With my new found confidence I think I'll become a real consumer now just like the rest of the world. Well the first world really. :)

  2. Firehorse - you are third person in a week that I know of who has purchased a new LCD and all three have purchased Panasonics.

I have purchased a Sony Bravia (even with the discount more expensive, I know) and being a size queen from puberty - mine is bigger than yours.

  3. So, the question begs to be asked, what resolution is your resolution? Ha ha ha - I'm fucking hilarious non? Seriously though that sounds like the perfect present for oneself... well done!

  7. A bit late, but you will need to be home all day to learn how to connect and/or use it. By now you should be sitting back watching Kerri Ann Kochy or whatever.

  9. I'm interested in your experiences also. I have a very old television and have been toying with the idea of replacing it. In fact, it was gonna be my Christmas present to myself, until I went through the "well, do you really need it? you have a tv that works? why don't you wait until it breaks?" internal conversation. I'll await your review.

  10. I hope your flat screen TV arrived in one piece and you are enjoying it. And don't suffer any buyer's remorse either! ;-)
