Bottom gear in the USA

  1. Whoa, whoa. Hang on a minute. Yes American cars do tend to be shitty (have you sat in a Chrysler product lately?) then again so do some Korean, Malaysian and French cars. Much of the problem with the US is that their auto makers are held over a barrel by UAW contracts. Of course thats not to say that Chapter 11 bankrupcy might not help them, because it would, they aren't the only ones in danger in the current economic climate though. The bailout might just help keep a few thousand workers in jobs, provided of course it keeps the companies afloat. If nothing else this will teach them an important lesson about product innovation and changing markets.

  2. No bailout yet! Maybe the US gov't should pay them NOT to make cars, just like we do with agriculture subsidies.

  3. I'm somewhere in the middle. They obviously didn't do their homework and now were caught with their pants down. I concur with Kezza's last sentence.
