Whilst in Brisbane we attended three sessions at the Brisbane International Tennis tournament. Amongst the name players we saw were Angelique Kerber, Rafael Nadal, Stan Wawrinka and Milos Raonic.
I watched some of that tournament. They're not showing us much on television. Now they're showing the Sydney tourney, but they're also putting the AO Qualifications on. Jeez. I would much rather watch real tournament play on tv instead of quals with unknowns. Quals are ok if there's nothing else to show, but there usually is. /rant
When I was growing up each of the six Australian states had a week long tournament with one of them in turn each year doubling as the Australian Open. In those years Australia was so often the Davis Cup holder that I assumed the Davis Cup Challenge Round (the final) commencing on Boxing Day was an annual event. Effectively seven weeks of summer with wall to wall tennis coverage on the Channel 7 network.
